Change is about noticing what’s no longer working and stepping out of the familiar, imprisoning patterns. Dr Edith Eger

What is counselling and/or psychotherapy?
'Counselling' and 'psychotherapy' are often used interchangeably but the difference can be explained by the length of time and what the main focus is. Counselling is often short-term and focuses on specific current issues. Psychotherapy is usually longer-term and looks at more deeply-rooted difficulties which may stem from the past. I work in both ways, depending on the clients needs, therefore use the term 'therapy' for both counselling and psychotherapy throughout this website.

Therapy gives a confidential and safe place to look at your relationships, challenges, and concerns that are having an unhealthy impact on you, with a trained professional. Helping you to understand your emotions and the origins of your difficulties, and develop a deeper understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This may involve looking at recurring emotions, relationships, your patterns of behaviour and thinking, your early years, and significant life events. Understanding yourself better will help you to make positive changes, find your own answers, and aid your ability to cope.

Initial contact
The first step is to contact me via email, the contact section of this website, or phone, and we will arrange a free conversation lasting up to 30 minutes via zoom or phone, which helps us to see if I am the right therapist for you. We will discuss some of your background information, what you hope to gain from therapy, and any questions you may have.
Going forward
Following our conversation, if you choose to go ahead, we would then arrange an initial consultation (for 50 minutes) which is a more detailed assessment of your needs. If we agree to work together, we would then arrange a regular 50 minute appointment. The initial consultation and ongoing sessions can be in-person, online, or by phone.
I hold professional liability insurance, and an enhanced DBS certificate. When we enter into a counselling agreement, I will provide you with a privacy notice which explains how I process data to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018.

Please note, therapy and related services are being undertaken in accordance with the laws of England and the BACP Ethical Framework of the United Kingdom, therefore any disputes arising will be subject to such laws and ethical framework.
